Voice Of Children Advocacy Production

(V.O.C.A.P)

CEDEN which was first known as CHILDREN NETWORK OF AFRICA which grew out of an earlier initiative that began with productive work from schools during the 2006-2007 academic year in Freetown - Sierra Leone. It  founder taught it fit that  children in Africa have the right to survive, be able to go to school, have the chance to express their opinions and views in matters pertaining to them, So he decided to set up this Children Advocacy Group into an NGO to  advocate for the eradication of Street kids. This young man is the present Executive Director of this NGO chapter in the Gambia, by the name of    Mr. Darlington Lindon Taylor-Camara.

This initiative was titled THE VOICE OF CHILDREN ADVOCACY PRODUCTION (VOCAP). We learned that the next generation of African children and youths in every African countries in the world are enlisting in drama, radio programs, movies, music etc, to speak out on issues from post war trauma, HIV/AIDS pandemic poverty and many more as a means of sensitization for children and youth of Africa on both sides of the Atlantic and to provide a forum for young children and women to speak in their own voices.

Hence using movies, music, radio/TV programs as a medium to express their views and minds. We sought to   position the children and youths themselves in analyzing issues affecting their live. The initiative is to show a consensus among young people through movies and music.

Nevertheless, (CEDEN – VOCAP) goes beyond that, as it tries to protect traditions and culture in movies and music through inspiring stories of past and present activities in the lives of Africa children and youths.

CEDEN – VOCAP import narratives about children in Africa, centering on the talents of individual that survive and escape miserable and   hopeless states of senseless violence and miseries. It is committed to sensitize African children and youths in the area of cultures and contributions to the development of collaborative children’s and youths   initiatives. Our aim is to protect the minds of oppressed and marginalized children and youths to be able to participate in the collective effort of nation building across Africa.

Hence the name CEDEN – VOCAP, Also want to bring children affairs into realty by sensitization, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

Universal Declaration of Rights for Children

  • We, the Children of the World, assert our inalienable right to be heard and to have a political voice at the United Nations and at the highest levels of governments worldwide.
  • We, the Children of the World, must live with justice, with peace and freedom, but above all, with the dignity we deserve.
  • We, the Children of the World, require a Marshall Plan, a Geneva Convention, and a World Children’s Court of Human Rights which meets regularly to listen to the testimonies as to what is actually happening to us.  We intend to provide our own testimonies.
  • We, the Children of the World, demand the right to be taken to safe shelters in situations of war.
  • We, the Children of the World, consider hunger, disease, forced labour, and all forms of abuse and exploitation perpetrated upon us to be war.
  • We, the Children of the World, have had no political voice. We demand such a voice.
  • We, the Children of the World, will develop our own leadership, and set an example that will show governments how to live in peace and freedom.
  • We, the Children of the World, serve notice on our abusers and exploiters, whoever they may be, that from this day hence, we will begin the process of holding you responsible for our suffering.

The Need For A Voice

Children, our littlest citizens, our future generally have no legislative rights. Their voices drown in the politics of power, the pain of their own personal suffering ignored, their screams falling on deaf ears.

Governments who neglect and abuse children do it for one reason, because they can. Ultimately, as governments struggle for power, children struggle for survival.

Working to Give Children a Voice

CEDEN is working to change how governments look at and deal with children's issues.

Our emphasis is in proposing the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Rights for Children by governments worldwide and the General Assembly of the United Nations.

We see this as a launching point for the implementation of legislation that will provide a political voice and recognizable status for children in every country.

Please help us to make the change and allow children their voice in this world. Join us today by signing the petition.

The Impact of Your Support

With your support, we will continue to take strategic action to ensure that both children and adults can carry forward the dialogue within the United Nations, governments, and communities worldwide.
Ultimately, we will be fostering environments where consideration for ALL the world’s citizens becomes the norm rather than an afterthought of political, economic and diplomatic posturing.
